Samir Modi, Brother of Lalit Modi, Arrested in Rape Case at Delhi Airport
Businessman Samir Modi, brother of fugitive ex-IPL chief Lalit Modi and Managing Director of Modicare, was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in connection with a rape case.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a woman employed by Modi, who alleged that he repeatedly raped her since 2019, under the pretext of marriage and career promises. She further accused him of issuing threats, criminal intimidation, stalking, and blackmail. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered at New Friends Colony police station.
Police took Modi into custody for interrogation, and his remand has been extended multiple times. As per procedure in rape investigations, a potency test was conducted and returned positive results, officials confirmed.
Meanwhile, Modi’s legal team has dismissed the allegations as fabricated and motivated by extortion, claiming the complainant demanded ₹50 crore. Modi has also filed counter-complaints of extortion against the woman.
The complainant, however, has expressed fear for her safety, alleging continued threats to her and her family due to Modi’s influence. The case is being heard in-camera, with the court directing strict privacy measures owing to its sensitive nature. Modi’s bail plea has been deferred to September 22, 2025.
The case has drawn heightened attention because of Modi’s family ties and the ongoing disputes within the Modi family. Police are investigating both the rape charges and the counterclaims of extortion.
