Moradabad Woman Dies After Alleged Acid Forcing by In-Laws Over Dowry
Moradabad – A 22-year-old woman, Gulfiza, has died after a harrowing 17-day struggle in hospital, with her parents alleging she was forced by her in-laws to drink acid over dowry demands. The case has sparked anger in Nagla Banveer village, where Gulfiza was the eldest of five daughters.
Gulfiza had married Parvez of Amroha just six months earlier. According to her parents, happiness turned to horror when the in-laws allegedly began demanding ₹10 lakh and repeatedly assaulting her. On 11 August, they claim, she was beaten and forced to swallow acid.
Her father, Mohammad Furqan, said, “She kept vomiting blood, telling her mother, ‘Don’t cry, I’ll be fine. Allah will punish Parvez and his family.’” Gulfiza remained in ICU for 13 days before being discharged. When her condition worsened, the family says crucial treatment papers had been taken away by her father-in-law, forcing hospitals to refuse readmission. She died on 27 August en route back to Moradabad after multiple hospitals, including AIIMS and Safdarjung, allegedly declined admission.
Furqan has filed an FIR naming husband Parvez, parents-in-law Aseem and Gulista, brothers-in-law Monis and Saif, and uncles Bhura and Babbo for dowry harassment and murder. Only Parvez has been arrested so far. Police have sealed the house in Kalakheda, where the other accused remain absconding.
Gulfiza’s uncle Rehan Ali alleges the in-laws “removed treatment records to hide the acid attack.” The grieving family seeks strict action against all accused, an inquiry into hospital negligence, and government compensation for mounting medical debts.
Neighbours offered conflicting statements, with one claiming Gulfiza ingested the acid herself during an argument. Investigating officer CO City Shakti Singh said, “We have Parvez in custody. Raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused. Murder sections have been added after the post-mortem.”
