Moradabad Crime Inspired by TV Show: Woman, Lover and Accomplice Kill Neighbour to Frame Her Own Family
Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking case that reads like a crime thriller, police in Moradabad uncovered a chilling conspiracy in which a young woman, along with her lover and his cousin, murdered a neighbour to falsely implicate her father and brothers in a murder case.
The accused — Swati (22), her boyfriend Manoj, and his cousin Manjeet — were arrested after a detailed investigation. Police said the conspiracy was inspired by crime shows, particularly Crime Patrol.
The Murder Plot:
Swati, a Class 10 pass, lived with her father Shobharam, mother Ramdei, and brothers Kapil and Gaurav in Guraitha village. Her family disapproved of her relationship with Manoj, a salon owner from Badaun. In frustration, Swati tried several times to poison her family by mixing sleeping pills in their food but failed.
Determined to remove them as obstacles, she told Manoj to either kill them or frame them in a false case. Manoj, taking cues from TV crime serials, came up with the idea of murdering someone else and framing Swati’s family.
On September 17, Manoj and Manjeet targeted Yogesh, a local painter. They laced his alcohol with sleeping pills, took him to a deserted graveyard area, and killed him brutally with a brick and strangulation.
Fake Call to Frame Family:
After the murder, Manoj used Yogesh’s phone to call UP-112, posing as the victim. In the call, he falsely accused Swati’s father and brothers of attacking him. The phone was left near the body.
Initially, police registered a murder case against Swati’s father and brothers, detaining them. But SSP Satpal Antil grew suspicious. On checking call records and voice samples, police found that the emergency call was not made by Yogesh.
Police Breakthrough & Encounter:
Further probe revealed Swati’s affair with Manoj and their conspiracy. Manoj and Manjeet were tracked down. During a police encounter near Pakbara, Manoj opened fire but was shot in the leg and captured. Both confessed to the crime, naming Swati as the mastermind.
All three — Swati, Manoj, and Manjeet — were arrested and sent to jail, while her father and brothers were released.
Police described the case as one of the most “chilling examples of how crime shows can influence real-life criminal conspiracies.”
