Assam Civil Service Officer Held with ₹1.7 Cr Cash & Jewellery in Vigilance Raid

Guwahati: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell on Monday arrested ACS officer Nupur Bora for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets.

Raids at her Guwahati residence in Shine Shanti Greeno led to the recovery of ₹92 lakh in cash and jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore. Another ₹10 lakh was seized from her rented house in Barpeta. In total, assets worth ₹1.7 crore were uncovered.

Bora, a 2019 batch officer from Golaghat, was serving as Circle Officer in Goroimari (Kamrup). CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said she was under watch for six months following complaints of land-transfer scams. “She had transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals for money while posted in Barpeta,” he alleged, adding that corruption in revenue circles of minority-dominated areas was rampant.

The Vigilance Cell also raided the residence of her alleged aide, Lat Mandal Surajit Deka, accused of acquiring multiple land properties in Barpeta in collusion with Bora.

Authorities are now scrutinising seized cash, documents, and her past tenure as ADC in Karbi Anglong, where she was already facing questions over irregularities.
