A massive boulder, dislodged by continuous rainfall, fell on a Max (Bolero) vehicle near Siddhbali Temple in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, killing two passengers and injuring four others on Monday (04/08/2025) . The vehicle, carrying six people, was travelling from Dugadda to Kotdwar on the Pauri-Kotdwar-Meerut National Highway.
The rock struck the moving vehicle near the Siddhbali barrier, crushing it completely. Police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and rescued the injured, who are now being treated at Kotdwar Base Hospital.
This is the third rockfall incident on a vehicle in the region within a week, raising serious concerns about travel safety during the monsoon season. Police and district officials have warned travellers to avoid hilly routes amid ongoing heavy rain and rising landslide risks.
Traffic remains suspended on 11 routes in Pauri district, while the Alaknanda River continues to swell.
