150-Year-Old "Cinema Tree" Begins Revival After 2024 Floods with Efforts from Local Officials and Rotary Club

A 150-year-old tree, known as “Nidra Ganneru Chettu” or the “Cinema Tree” for its role in over 300 South Indian and Bollywood films, is showing signs of recovery after being uprooted by the 2024 floods. Located on the Godavari River's banks in Kumaradevam village, the tree had survived multiple natural disasters in the past. The East Godavari district administration and Rotary Club of Icons Rajamahendravaram have been working for two months to revive the tree. Despite challenges like erosion and rodents, new sprouts have emerged, and hopes are high that the tree will be fully restored by October. The restoration is being led by Rekhapalli Durgaprasad, with strong support from local officials, including Collector Prashanti. The tree holds significant cultural and cinematic value for the region.
