Prime Minister Modi Reviews Cyclone Remal's Devastation; NDRF Conducts Rescue Operations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a review meeting on Sunday to assess the impact of Cyclone Remal, which has resulted in over three dozen fatalities and affected more than 200,000 people in the northeastern states due to flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi was briefed on the extensive damage caused by the cyclone during the meeting.
"The loss of human lives and the extensive damage to houses and properties in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura due to landslides and floods were discussed. NDRF teams have been deployed as needed and have conducted evacuation, airlifting, and road clearance operations," the statement said.
The meeting highlighted that the Ministry of Home Affairs is maintaining regular contact with the state governments to coordinate relief efforts.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the central government's commitment to supporting the cyclone-affected states. He directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to continuously monitor the situation and assess the needs for restoration assistance.
Persistent rainfall and landslides have isolated parts of the northeast, submerging railway tracks and leading the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to cancel express, passenger, and goods trains to south Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram since Tuesday.
