Japan: Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Hits Ishikawa Prefecture, No Tsunami Threat
The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed a magnitude 5.9 earthquake striking Ishikawa Prefecture, with no risk of a tsunami, according to NHK.
The quake occurred at around 6:31 am on Monday, with its epicentre approximately 10 kilometres deep.
Wajima and Suzu cities in Ishikawa Prefecture experienced tremors reaching an upper 5 on Japan's seismic scale. Noto town felt tremors below 5 in intensity, while Nanao city, Anamizu town, and some areas in Niigata Prefecture registered an intensity of 4.
In the aftermath, East Japan Railway temporarily suspended Hokuriku Shinkansen and Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train services due to a power outage. Service resumed by 6:50 am, NHK reported.
