Fire Engulfs Four Shops in Gujarat's Bhavnagar

Bhavnagar (Gujarat) [India], June 9: A fire erupted in four shops adjacent to a bus stand in Vartej village of Bhavnagar district on Sunday morning, officials said. According to fire service officials, fire tenders promptly rushed to the spot to douse the flames and prevent further devastation. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.

Earlier, on May 25, a massive fire broke out at a gaming zone in Gujarat's Rajkot city, resulting in the loss of 27 lives, including children. In response to this incident, the Gujarat High Court questioned the State government on why only junior-level officers were suspended and not the city municipal commissioner.

President of Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association, Brijesh Trivedi, stated that the court also queried why Section 302 of the IPC was not invoked in the case. "The court has taken the matter very seriously. It asked the State government why only junior-level officers were suspended and not the city municipal commissioner. It also asked why Section 302 IPC was not invoked. The SIT is expected to submit its report soon," Trivedi told ANI.

Meanwhile, a plea was filed in a Rajkot court demanding that 13 more officers be booked in connection with the gaming zone fire incident. The complaint, lodged by an advocate at the Rajkot District Court, demands the inclusion of 13 officers' names in the FIR registered at Taluka police station after the fire incident. The court has accepted the petition and set a hearing date for June 20.

In connection with the Rajkot fire, the Gujarat government had previously suspended seven officials, including two police inspectors and civic staff of Rajkot Municipal Corporation, for dereliction of duty.
