DMK's Elangovan Credits CM Stalin for Election Sweep in Tamil Nadu
After the DMK meeting, party leader T K S Elangovan praised Chief Minister M K Stalin for his extensive campaigning, attributing the party's sweeping victory in Tamil Nadu to his efforts. "We thanked the Chief Minister for travelling throughout the state, for campaigning, and playing a major role in the victory of all leaders in Tamil Nadu," Elangovan said.
Elangovan also mentioned that a resolution was passed to counter the BJP's attempts to amend the constitution in favor of "one country, one election." He emphasized the importance of maintaining India's diversity, stating, "India is known for unity in diversity. They want to abolish that diversity, so we passed a resolution to maintain the diversity and unity of the country."
On June 8, a meeting of DMK MPs was held at the party headquarters in Chennai, chaired by DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin. The DMK won 22 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data. DMK allies Congress won 9 seats, Communist Party of India won 2, Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 2, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi won 2, and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Indian Union Muslim League won one seat each.
Nationally, the BJP won 240 seats, lower than its 2019 tally of 303, while the Congress registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, while the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition and defying predictions.
