Horror at Surajkund Mela: Giant Swing Snaps Mid-Air, On-Duty Inspector Killed, 13 Injured
An on-duty police inspector was killed and at least 13 people were injured after a giant Tsunami swing snapped mid-air and crashed at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:15 pm when nearly 15 people were riding the swing. Police said the structure tilted suddenly before collapsing onto the ground, triggering panic at the crowded fair.
The deceased has been identified as Inspector Jagdish Prasad of Palwal Police, who was deployed on fair duty. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Officials said the officer showed bravery and attempted to save people, but suffered severe head and facial injuries. He was due to retire in March.
Following the accident, the mela ground was evacuated. District Magistrate Ayush Sinha supervised rescue operations, and the injured were shifted to hospitals.
A probe has been ordered into the incident. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini expressed grief over the death and assured proper treatment for the injured. The Surajkund Mela, inaugurated on January 31, is scheduled to continue till February 15.
